What is My PMI?

My PMI is a simpler, friendlier way to get private medical insurance that’s right for your client and their needs. With four different cover options to choose from, this is private medical insurance that can fit in with your client’s budget.

As pressure on the NHS grows, more and more people are turning to private medical insurance to help cover the cost of high-quality medical treatment. My PMI gives your clients fast access to surgeries, therapies and after-care, so they can have peace of mind when it comes to their medical needs.

Have extra flexibility with:

Private GP appointments available 24/7

Your clients can speak to a doctor whenever they need to over the phone, online or via video chat.

Access to family cover

Make sure other members of your client’s family are protected too.

A wide choice of hospitals

or can be guided by our expert teams.

Claims made easy

We’ll be by your clients’ side every step of the way through their medical claims. We’ll make sure  they see the most appropriate medical specialist, as soon as possible. We have access to the UK’s leading consultants and deal with all major hospitals.

And they’ll be receiving the right medical treatment at every stage of their claim.

If they’re happy to see a consultant selected by our medical claims team, we can also book their appointment at a time to suit them.

Guided Treatment

If you choose our Guided treatment option, then when your GP refers you for further treatment they’ll write you what is known as an open referral; i.e. it says you need to see a certain type of clinician like a gastroenterologist, but doesn’t name anyone in particular. You can then share this with a member of our claims team. They’ll select a hand-picked consultant who’ll then oversee your treatment from start to finish, using their experience to select the best treatment path for you. We’ll always look to find a consultant close to you; certainly no more than 30 miles from where you live but usually closer.

Free access to Friendly GP

Our virtual GP service, Friendly GP, is a free added benefit to your client’s My PMI policy. It can be accessed over the phone or online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This means your client always has easy access to a doctor when they need their help.

  • 24/7 unlimited GP telephone consultations
  • Video consultations
  • Private prescriptions
  • Open referrals

Your questions answered

You can take out a My PMI policy as:

  • a single adult
  • a couple (two adults)
  • a single adult with children added
  • a couple with children added

Adults who apply for a policy have to be between the ages of 18 and 85. Any children added to a policy can be covered up to the age of 23.

You also have to be a permanent resident in the UK (excluding the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) and have been registered with a GP in the UK for at least six months.

Out-patient: This tends to mean consultations, procedures or treatment that doesn’t require an overnight stay and typically take place in clinics or doctor's offices.

In/day-patient: This usually means treatment where you’ll have to stay overnight or for an extended period in hospital.

When your client applies, they’ll be asked to choose which hospital/provider option they want on their policy. Our Guided treatment option means our claims team will be able to help find you a consultant and make sure you get the best treatment path.

Or if want free choice on where you go for treatment and/or who you see, then you can select one of two options:

  • your client can also choose our Standard hospitals list, which just excludes a list of hospitals whose costs exceed those elsewhere in the country; or
  •  your client can choose our Extended hospitals list, which allows you to use any recognised hospital facility in the country, including those excluded from the Standard list.

Each level of cover offers slightly different cancer cover:

Level 1 covers cancer diagnosis only up to £2,000 or £5,000 a year.

Level 2 covers diagnosis (scan and test only); then provides a limited level of chemo/radiotherapy, but no biological/stem cell/bone marrow therapies.

Level 3 covers diagnosis up to £2,000 or £5,000 a year, then in-patient treatment for chemo-, radio- and biological therapies up to £1 million a year.

Level 4 covers diagnostics, radio-, chemo-, biological, bone marrow and stem cell therapies, without financial limits.

Whichever level of cover your client chooses, their policy comes with access to our virtual GP service. It’s called Friendly GP and it can be accessed over the phone or online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We’ll give your client the full details when they take out a policy or they can go to our Existing Members page to find out more.
