Friendly Shield is a unique new solution to offer your clients, giving them short-term protection against unexpected absence from work. The policy covers accidental injuries as standard, and now has the option to cover sickness, too. It’s particularly valuable for those clients on tight budgets, who want a wide range of cover, or who can’t access other products like full income protection.

Clients can now choose whether to add benefits for sickness in addition to the standard cover for accidental injury.

This includes an income benefit should they fall ill and be unable to work, and a hospital cash benefit should they be admitted to hospital due to sickness and they need to stay overnight.

If your client chooses to add sickness cover, any spouse or child on their policy will be able to claim the hospital cash benefit for sickness which occurs once the policy has been in place for 9 months.

How Friendly Shield works

For clients aged 18-60. Your client can choose from 3 levels of cover – bronze £10 per month, silver £17 per month and gold £24 per month.

  • Hospital cash: a cash benefit of £50 per night for any covered accidents (and sickness if selected) for up to 360 days per policy year.

  • Fracture cover: a lump sum benefit for fractures of bones up to £3,000 per policy year.

  • Income Benefit: short term income protection up to £2,250 per month for up to 3 months for accidents (and sickness if selected).

  • Accidental death benefit: a lump sum payable on accidental death up to £85,000.

  • Natural death benefit: a lump sum payable on any cause of death of £2,500 after a 2-year qualifying period.

  • Friendly GP: 24/7 access to a virtual GP for the whole family from the start of the policy, plus additional health and wellbeing services including physiotherapy, counselling, legal information and money and debt help and more.

  • Rehabilitation benefit: a payment of up to £1,000 providing access to private facilities covering physical therapies, i.e. acupuncture, physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropractic treatment, follow-up scans and tests and consultations.

  • NEW Sickness Cover add-on: additional income benefit for the policyholder and hospital cash benefit for any covered family member should their claim be due to sickness

Your client won’t be covered for unemployment

To be covered, accidents have to result in an impact injury

Every 5 years we will review your client’s premium and could change the cost of their cover

Sickness Cover add-on: Any conditions your client has been treated for in the past 18 months won’t be covered in the income benefit. The hospital benefit starts after holding the policy for 9 months.
